Art history is a centuries-long conversation told in pictures. As each new generation enters this conversation, the artists listen to what has been said before, listen to what their inner voices tell them, and then speak, hoping to say something new. It’s not easy to find something fresh to say, but what is even more difficult is to know what your own truth is and speak it regardless of what the art world or anyone else has to say about it. Achieving that kind of authenticity is a tall order, and it is a lifetime job. Finding your own voice means getting your hands, your eyes, your heart, and your mind in alignment within your work.
